In recent years, technological advances and user acceptance have opened up new possibilities for the adoption of virtual reality in several fields. Training and education are well-established applications of virtual reality. Industry, health, entertainment, as well as marketing and creative industries are some of the sectors where virtual reality is being adopted.
In virtual reality, people explore and interact freely with objects in the virtual environment, which poses several challenges: what is the best way to use “affordances” to facilitate object recognition and interaction options, to model and measure visual searches, to model and drive users’ levels of attention and distraction, and to asses the level of engagement, immersion, and presence?
This Special Issue invites researchers to share recent progress on these topics in all related fields (including but not limited to education and training, health, and immersive analytics). Interdisciplinary contributions are especially welcome. Guest Editors encourage the submission of papers containing a rigorous evaluation of their approach.
